BAT Vietnam has released its 2024 Sustainability Summary, providing transparent insights into its sustainability strategy, key initiatives, and performance outcomes, demonstrating that its sustainable development journey is progressing in depth and substance.
BAT Vietnam recently published its 2024 Sustainability Summary, enhancing transparency around its strategy and actions across four key focus areas: Climate, Nature, Communities, and Governance.
Under the Climate pillar, BAT Vietnam achieved notable milestones, including a 61% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2020, an average annual reduction of 1,690 tonnes of CO₂ between 2015 and 2024, and the transition to 100% renewable electricity across all manufacturing sites. Emissions reduction efforts have been implemented consistently throughout the value chain, focusing on three core areas: improving energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy, and reducing emissions across the value chain, which delivers both environmental benefits and operational efficiency.
In terms of Nature, BAT Vietnam has expanded its Nature-based Solutions (NbS) approach, particularly in ecosystem restoration and sustainable agriculture. The company has improved water stewardship by reducing reliance on municipal water and increasing the use of recycled water in production. In collaboration with environmental organizations such as Bien Hoa Xanh and Sai Gon Xanh, BAT Vietnam supported the cleanup of nearly 30 canals and waterways in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City in 2024.
Additionally, BAT Vietnam continued its partnership with the Gaia Nature Conservation Center, restoring a further 40 hectares of mangrove forest in Ca Mau Cape in 2024, bringing the total restored area to 124 hectares within just three years. Monitoring reports indicate that young mangrove trees have begun to thrive, contributing to the recovery of coastal ecosystems.
Under the Communities pillar, BAT Vietnam prioritizes both workforce development and sustainable livelihoods. Internally, 47% of management positions are held by women, reflecting the company’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. BAT Vietnam also supports farmers within its supply chain by providing seedlings, fertilizers, drip irrigation systems, and electric curing barns to improve productivity and livelihoods. Meanwhile, the “Women’s Empowerment” program continued to expand, providing interest-free loans to 56 women in Long An province in 2024, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to more than 700 women.
Finally, Governance remains a cornerstone of BAT Vietnam’s sustainability framework, underpinned by robust Standards of Business Conduct, Responsible Marketing Framework, Supplier Code of Conduct, and a strong culture of compliance, which the company regards as essential to long-term growth.
