In September 2026, BAT Vietnam held Energy Saving Workshops at its two manufacturing sites in Dong Nai Province (BAT-Vinataba JV) and in Vinh Loc Commune, Ho Chi Minh City (VINA-BAT JV) to review energy use, discuss current operating practices and identify improvement opportunities for further consideration. The workshops brought together representatives from multiple functions, enabling teams to jointly assess the main energy-consuming areas and discuss solutions suited to the actual operating conditions at each site.
Through the workshops, the teams recorded a total of 28 improvement ideas, comprising 16 ideas at the VINA-BAT JV and 12 ideas at the BAT-Vinataba JV. Based on preliminary estimates made by the teams during the workshops, these ideas have a combined estimated electricity-saving potential of more than 5,800 kWh per month, comprising more than 2,100 kWh per month at the VINA-BAT JV site and more than 3,700 kWh per month at the BAT-Vinataba JV site. These figures represent preliminary estimates of potential savings only. They do not represent savings already achieved and have not yet been verified through implementation and actual measurement.
The identified opportunities covered five main areas:
The teams identified these as areas of relatively high energy consumption that could be reviewed further for potential optimisation opportunities.
During the discussions, the teams considered a range of practical solutions, including adjusting the operating settings of air-conditioning systems, optimising compressed-air pressure, checking for leaks, improving lighting controls, enhancing insulation and reviewing the performance of selected equipment and auxiliary systems. Several ideas were proposed for further evaluation and may be considered for phased implementation, subject to technical assessment, feasibility review and the necessary approvals.
The workshops also provided an opportunity for different functions to share operational experience, raise awareness of efficient energy use and discuss solutions that could contribute to improved operational efficiency. In addition to potential equipment investments or upgrades, several identified opportunities related to day-to-day management and operating practices, highlighting the role of continuous improvement in supporting more efficient energy use.
Through this initiative, BAT Vietnam continues to encourage cross-functional participation in identifying improvement opportunities and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in the workplace. The recorded ideas will be further reviewed, evaluated and prioritised in accordance with the relevant internal governance and approval processes. Any actual savings, if achieved, will only be confirmed and reported after the relevant solutions have been implemented and measured.
